• Get on the water — near the north pedestrian bridge at Mockingbird Lane, White Rock Paddle Co. rents kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards by the hour (typically Wednesday–Sunday), with life jackets provided for kids.
• Go fishing — bank fishing is the way here since motors aren’t allowed, and the lake is stocked with crappie, largemouth bass, and catfish. Anyone 17 and older needs a Texas fishing license.
• Hit a playground — several play structures sit near the parking areas around the lake, easy to pair with a picnic.
• Watch for wildlife — Sunset Bay is a favorite for spotting herons, egrets, and migrating birds, a quiet win with curious kids.
• Bring the dog — leashed dogs are welcome on the trails, and there’s an off-leash dog park at Mockingbird Point on the northwest side.

Toddlers and preschoolers do best with the playgrounds, short stroller walks, and duck-and-bird watching along the shore. Elementary-age kids can handle stretches of the bike loop, a first try at paddling, and bank fishing. Tweens and teens can ride the full loop or take a kayak out on their own (with supervision).
