Sci-Tech Discovery Center

Sci-Tech Discovery Center is a nonprofit, hands-on STEAM museum inside the Frisco Discovery Center, and it hits a sweet spot that the big downtown museums sometimes miss: it’s small, manageable, and built almost entirely for kids to touch and try. For curious early learners and elementary-age kids, especially the ones who ask “but why?” about everything, it’s an easy, affordable win and a great rainy-day or beat-the-heat stop.
Things to Do
Nearly everything on the exhibit floor is interactive. Kids can:
- Build and launch paper rockets in the Air Pressure Zone, then assemble a car and use air pressure to shoot it down a track.
- Fly a drone simulator and take on robotics challenges.
- Shape their own landscape on a sand-topography table that projects live elevation as they dig.
- Tinker in the Maker Studio and take on building challenges with oversized architectural blocks, KEVA planks, and ThinkerLinker gears.
- Play a giant version of Operation, explore nano-science, and run around imaginative-play areas like the kids’ market.
Because it’s compact, kids can move quickly from one hands-on station to the next without the overwhelm of a giant museum.
Best for Which Ages
The exhibit floor is aimed at early learners and elementary-age children, and that’s who gets the most out of it. Toddlers and preschoolers enjoy the imaginative-play areas and the simpler cause-and-effect stations. Elementary kids are the core audience and can happily fill a couple of hours. Older tweens and teens may find it on the small side, so it works best for them as a quick stop or paired with something bigger nearby.
Tickets, Hours, and Timing
- Tickets: as of 2026, admission is about $10 for children ages 3 and up and for adults, with kids under 3 free and members free. A family membership starts around $100 and pays for itself in a few visits, and discounts are typically available for seniors, military, and teachers. Confirm current pricing before you go.
- Hours: the center is generally closed Mondays except during peak holiday periods, so check the schedule.
- Plan on about two hours to work through all the exhibits.
- Note: there’s no food or drink service on site, so bring water and plan snacks around your visit.
Tips for Visiting
Weekday mornings are calmest; weekends and school-break days draw the biggest crowds into a small space. Since it’s inside the Frisco Discovery Center, it’s easy to combine with other Frisco stops for a fuller day.
